MISE-EN-SCENE BLOG TASK!

 MISE-EN-SCENE BLOG TASK:

COSTUME:
He is wearing a yellow overall, the type of overall that he is wearing is normally related to a prison outfit which is usually orange which means this relates to crime and law. But because of the title of the image "breaking bad" the 'Br' and 'Ba' are in the form of an element from the periodic table which can indicate that this is a series related to science possibly drugs as the overall could be the uniform of protection in order to make the drugs. Studies also show that yellow is associated with a stimulated effect of drugs. The way he is sitting can indicate a form of hierarchy as if he is looking down upon everyone the text "all hail the kind" links to my analysis.

LIGHTING:
The lighting of the poster is dark possibly indicating that the series is about brutal murders and possibly illegal things. "Working in the dark" because I think this series has something to do with drugs, the poster being dark can show the protagonist working in the dark so no one can see his dirty doings. The image having a very dark light towards it can also portray dark hidden secrets. I believe this series is a hybrid genre

ACTORS:
The character in this poster seems like the protagonist. The facial expression on this character makes the series seem serious and suggest the mood is set to create tension and thoughts between the audience. This image creates the enigma code because there are a few questions that the audience may want to be answered such as why is he sitting like that? why is he wearing yellow? why is he so serious?

PROPS:
The load of money (prop) at the sides of the image links to the drug selling topic. The rubbish surrounding the protagonist can suggest the obstacles and difficulties that he faces. But the facial expression opposes the moment of the series being "series" it also shows some sense of relaxed and prepared to do anything type of expression which leaves the audience in great suspense as they would be confused on what genre this series is actually based on.

SETTINGS:
The setting of this image is somewhere dark and closed. It seems like it is in a small cage that is protected from people breaking in (this can show that the point of the series is protecting the dark secret) The setting can also suggest the place where the drugs are made.

Find TWO film or TV extracts on YouTube from different genres (e.g., horror, sci-fi, costume drama). Embed them in your blogpost and write a comparison of the mise-En-scene in each.

CLAMPS (Jurassic World):
The costume for this scene is very dark and old which can be used in contrast as the costume in the scene below of mean girls as they are wearing very bright, fresh new clothes this can connote and tell us the genre of the film, possibly suggesting that this film is an action, sci/fi genre. The lighting is also very dull and dark this could be because the director did not want the audience to specifically focus on a specific part but focus on the movie scene as a whole. This scene has a lot of action and flash that goes on and off this is done to keep the audience engaged. Jurassic world is part of a franchise as the actor in this scene is almost in every movie this is probably done to make the viewers feel relieved as they know the protagonist who has been a hero in every movie will once again help everyone out. The body language of the character in the scene is very alert and the facial expressions seem to be tensed and terrified as the dinosaurs are out of hand. The setting of this scene is very interesting as it seems to be in a forest, mountain area where it is very dirty and gets very violent whereas the scene below is chilled and is shot in a very clean hygienic school. The camera in this scene seems to be shot in the same level on the other hand the scene below it includes number of different shots such as over the shoulder shots, eye level and close up shots.

CLAMPS (Mean Girls):
The costume for this scene is very ordinary pretty much what anyone would wear on a daily basis. However, the new girl "cady" seems to wear very dull colours and seems to be the odd one out from the other girls which can indicate that she is the victim that the "mean girls" are victimising. The lighting of this scene is very lit up suggesting that the director wanted to make sure the spotlight is on their beauty and that is it the only thing that should be cared about. The actresses themselves seem to be very high class the 3 mean girls this is shown by their clothes they seem to be bright and stand out from cady. This scene also shows the body language and how the 2 characters: Gretchen and Karen's character relies on the main protagonist, Regina. The way the 3 girls talk, and their facial expressions show hatred as shown many times when Regina rolls her eyes and gives side eyes to her other friends. This leaves the audience in tension and question themselves as to why they are acting in such way (enigma code). The prop (bracelet) plays a certain part of the scene as it creates the "first" impression of cady to the mean girls. This part also ensures Cady feels uncomfortable as she is always left speechless. The setting of this scene is in the school canteen which creates the stereotype that most mean girls are high class, rich and show their attitude to people who do not match their standards. This movie is a teenage drama genre
