FILM AND TV LANGUAGE

FILM POSTER ANALYSIS

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think this movie is about a man who has made a robot, but the robot seems to be the villain of the story doing things that are not supposed to be done causing troubles to the universe (this is because the background of the poster gives me ideas of space and stars). The gun and the light give the man heroic (narrative roles) characteristics. The smoke in the women's hand and the cold chilled facial reactions give a very villainy expression.

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
This film belongs to the genre action and sci-fi (hybrid genre) because the movie contains violence which can be showed through the gun. I also think it can be sci- fi because of how I think its related to the universe and robots.

Who do you think is the target audience?
I believe the film is an 18+ because of the violence and also because of the characters facial expressions which make it seem like it is a much serious film and a film that needs quite a lot of attention which a younger age would not enjoy as much.

🠆 Includes tagline
🠆 the lady at the back seems to be robotic
🠆 because the lady at the back is mostly shown in the dark it suggests that she is a villain of the movie. The smoke in her hand proves the same point.
🠆 the guy who is shown in the light with the sun presents a heroic character. The gun (prop) iconography (generic conventions) gives the man heroic characteristics.
🠆 There is binary opposition (narrative themes) as there is an evil and good and light and dark.

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think the movie is about a group of friends in a haunted house (this is because of the background which dark and the light (lighting) coming through the one window there is). I believe there is a ghost or someone who is supposed to be a "scary person" that haunts the group of friends, there is a priest (the one showing a cross with his fingers) that I believe tries to scare away the ghost. The priest in this case has shown to have a heroic character (narrative roles)

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
This movie belongs to the genre horror and comedy because of the tagline "absolutely hilarious" almost like a parody (appropriation). It is a horror movie because of the name of the movie and because of the style some characters are presented like (generic conventions)

Who do you think is the target audience?
I think the movie has an age rating of 18+ because of that fact it's scary and because of the things written on the characters shirts which could be inappropriate for any younger watchers.

🠆 Includes tagline
🠆 seems like a horror movie because of how the background is dark
🠆 seems to be comedy because of the facial expressions
🠆 the boys that are wearing masks and wigs (mise-en-scene)- are the ones that make the movie a horror movie
🠆 "scary movie '2' " (film franchise)

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think the movie is about someone losing something and in search of something. I think the movie is about losing something or someone because how he is standing alone, and he seems to be wearing black suggesting a funeral or a loss (costume) mise-En- scene.

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
I think the genre of the movie is dramatic and emotional. The setting (generic conventions) of the movie seems to be in the winter cold season suggesting that the movie is going to be a very slow, problematic and sad movie.

Who do you think is the target audience?
The target audience for this movie is 15+ because there seems to be no horror, action or inappropriate parts towards this poster showing that the age rating is towards young teens.

🠆 the colours of the poster suggest it's a very emotional, dramatic and life changing
🠆 setting of the film is in the cold winter season
🠆 adjectives used to describe the movie in the poster, "profoundly beautiful", "a joy", "a real masterpiece".
🠆 the brown looking water (lighting, mise-en-scene) can suggest the problems in the movie and can also suggest that the movie is set in a poorly developed country.
🠆 the title seems to be in a different language which means it has been originated from a different country

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
The movie is about a boy who finds a deep hole in the ground and finds another person that is there almost like a prisoner. I think the little boy experiences something bad happening to the prisoner for the reason of the title "I'm not scared"

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
The genre that I believe fits the best is thriller and mystery. I believe it's a thriller because it seems to be more of a tension filled story and the mystery is who is there in the hole and what happens to them.

Who do you think is the target audience?
I think this movie is 15+ because young adults like watching mystery/thriller type of movies. Younger children may not be amused/ fascinated by this movie. Some children may find this movie scary as there is someone trapped in the hole.

🠆 the title "I'm not scared" which is in a fire font shows the movie is about danger
🠆 there is binary opposition (narrative themes) as there is a dark deep hole and the sunny sky outside.
🠆 Instead of tagline the movie poster has talked about the promotion of the filming with "award winning" and "filmed with such visual intensity"
🠆 binary opposition (narrative themes) when the title is "I'm not scared" but the boys facial expressions seem to look like he's afraid which also is a form of irony (when you say something you are not)
🠆 I think the tagline is in a different language, so the film is probably originated from somewhere else setting, location (mise-en-scene)

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think the film is about a few people trying to find out about a crime that has taken place and also about protecting people. The guns show a sense of villainy but also a heroic side of the characters (narrative roles). This movie could be about murders and deaths because of the title and poster colour red for blood and black for mourning.

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
The movie genre for this movie is crime and murder mystery (hybrid genre, documentary genres). The guns and weapons indicate the crime view, but this can also mean that the people are trying to find out who killed their friend linking back to why I think this movie is about mystery. The name of the movie also suggests the crime/ mystery view "sin" can show how the people in the movie are religious.

Who do you think is the target audience?
I think the target audience is 18+ I think this because I believe that this movie will show the blood and violent scene that are shot in this movie therefore, I believe that many children will be disturbed viewing this movie. The characters in this movie also give it away that this is an adult type of movie because a young child would not like to watch movies that are blood and death related.

🠆 the use of guns (iconography) can suggest that this is a violent movie. Although most of them are holding guns suggesting that they are all some sort of villains.
🠆 the way the camera is positioned is dutch angle (cinematography) gives the characters a more serious and intense look.
🠆 the setting (mise-en-scene) of the poster picture seems to be raining which creates a more of a mystery and cold view of the film
🠆 no tagline
🠆 the guy in the light (lighting) can indicate heaven the dead friend that they are trying to investigate about

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think the movie is about the crew of pirates going on a search for the treasure. I think this movie is also a little romantic and I think that one of the pirates from the crew is going to go after a girl. The chest i believe is the main part to the movie because "dead's man chest" and also because of the faded (editing) images in the back.

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
The genre for this movie is action- adventure and fantasy this is because of how they have to find the treasure suggesting the route and process they have to go through to find the treasure making this movie very adventurous. The fantasy is where the male and the female parts come in when they fall in love and the guy chases after the girl and protects her from every danger even if it means breaking the pirate codes.

Who do you think is the target audience?
the target audience for this movie I think is 12+ this is because this movie i believe can give a lot of knowledge to little kids and it is not too violent or too sad. It is very adventurous the movie doesn't seem to have any inappropriate scenes and is not all about guns and knives which is perfect for a younger age.

🠆 No tagline or description of the cinema or theatre
🠆 colours seem very dark showing a pirate's lifestyle.
🠆 the guy who is faded out of the poster seems to be given villain characteristics (binary opposition on those who are faded in and shown very clearly)

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
I think the story line is about a multicultural relationship between an Indian woman and a British man. I believe this movie discusses about the topics on the different cultures and how it is difficult to understand their perspectives. the film reveals the struggle of understanding cultural differences and cultural perceptions between Indians and Britian's. The fact that there are no dark colours show that there are no dark and violent scenes.

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
This movie has many genres towards it (hybrid genre) I think the genres are romance, drama and comedy because of the tagline "spectacular, romantic, funny and so sexy"

Who do you think is the target audience?
For this movie I believe the target audience is younger teens maybe around the age of 13 and it doesn't include anything that would surprise them in fact a movie like this would teach them about reality and how relationships like this happen in real life like this.

🠆 A very bright poster suggests a happy ending
🠆 includes tagline
🠆 the movie seems to have drama since the people in the poster all seem to be happy therefore the plot of the movie has to be an issue or a problem that gets solved at the end

What do you think the film is about and what might the storyline be?
The storyline for this movie is about a woman who has a passion for boxing and wants to be trained to become a boxer. A man who is a trainer is reluctant to teach her because of the fact that she is a woman, and he believes that a women cannot be in such role. During the film the lady proves to the trainer that she is more than a normal boxer. The fact that there is lighter on the girl it gives her heroic view (narrative roles) from the person seeing the poster (lighting)

What genre(s) do you think the film belongs to?
the genre for this movie is drama and sport (hybrid genre). I believe there is going to be drama between the protagonist and the trainer because of gender inequality (feminism, male domination)

Who do you think is the target audience?
The target audience for this movie is 13-14 because there is nothing disturbing, but it can help students with educating themselves and also adults especially some of the males that still think that boxing is a male sport.
🠆 No tagline
🠆 Not colourful at all maybe because all of the drama that takes place are a part of history
🠆 the serious faces on the character shows how this movie is tense filling and problematic
